Bhakta Kannappa was a great Shiva devotee. He is a descendant of Boya named Tinnadu in Purvasram. He was the son of a Boya king. According to history Srikalahasti lived in the surrounding areas. One day while hanging through the forest path, he saw a Shivalinga somewhere in the forest. Ever since then, the eater worshiped it with bhakti devotion and offered the meat he had hunted.[1][2]

Once Shiva came to worship the Shivalingam to test his bhakti and started bleeding from one of his eyes. Unable to bear the water dripping from the eye of the statue, Tindu took out his own eye with an arrowhead and fixed it to the bleeding eye. Soon the second eye of the statue also started bleeding. He took out his second eye and attached it to the idol, keeping his toe as a mark. Shiva, who was impressed by Tinnadi's unalloyed devotion, granted him liberation. That is why the eater got the name Kannappa. A story called Arjunudu (Kiratarjuniyam) in Tinnadu's previous birth is also in circulation.

Tinnadu became Kannappa because he set his eyes on God. He became Kannappanayanaru. Netresanayanaru is Sanskrit for Kannappanayanaru.

Shivalinka, who plows blood and turns his eyes to Bhakti Kannappa

Kannappa is a Telugu man.. Utukur in Rajampeta region is his native place.. Nagappa was the ruler of that region. His house name is Datta. Both of them are devotees of Subrahmanyaswami. By the grace of Swami, they named their son Tinnappa. Nagappa taught Tinnadi all the arts and made him a king. He ate and turned to archery. Even if he hunts the Boya according to his clan dharma - with all living things for food - compassion and love develop from birth. He does not hunt young, female or diseased animals. He conquered the animal feelings in him like lust, anger and mada matsarya.

One day he went hunting and a boar escaped from his net and ran away. He chased the boar with his followers Nama and Kamus. It got tired and stopped in front of the tree. He ate it and killed it. Everyone is tired and exhausted. Carrying it, they went to Swarnamukhinadi beach. Kalahasti hill and temple were visible.

The eater felt a great urge to go to that mountain and see the temple. Nama says that Parameswara is Kudumu Devaru (the God who calls). Kamadu started texting the pig. As he was climbing that hill, Alaukikananda passed away, as he had experienced before. It is the result of previous birth. It felt like a weight was being lifted from him.. his body consciousness also slowed down.. When he found the Shiva lingam there, an infinite love was born for it. He took care of that linga..he showered kisses..when Anandabashpa fell, he said to Shiva, 'Ishwara! How can you be alone in this dense forest? How do you get food? Who will accompany you? I will stay with you. Oops! My father is hungry, I will bring you some food', he could not leave the linga, he could not go... Finally he immediately went down the hill to appease Shiva's hunger. Kama tasted the pork and offered it to Lord Shiva. He said that every day before offering food to God, he is anointed with water and worshiped with flowers. Hearing that, Tinnadu rinsed his mouthful of water from the river, placed the flowers collected on his head, and with the digested meat in his hand, ate with his bow and arrows and went to the temple. He threw the water that was boiled there on Lord Shiva. It was anointed. He decorated Shiva with flowers on his head. It became archana. Then he put the pork he had brought before God. It was reported to him. He guarded the door so that no one or any animal would come... That Boani Bhakti moved that Kailasanathu who was Bholashankara.... The next morning he again went out to get food. I am addicted to lust. Thinking that the change in Tinnani was a hallucination, he immediately went and told his parents everything that had happened. They took the food home and served it. Tinnadu did not go because he would stay with Shiva.

While Tinnadu went to gather food for God, Sivagochari, the temple priest, came to worship Lord Shiva. He felt that someone had desecrated the temple and was shocked. That priest was well versed in Agamas. Therefore, he removed the meat and other things from there, after magically besought him, bathed again, anointed him with Svarnamukhi water brought in a pot, decorated him with flowers, Vibhutilinalimi, and gave a report with the sweet things he brought. When the priest left, the eater again brought the hunted meat to God. The priest removed the decorated pooja items and performed the pooja in his own way. Five days passed like this. The priest couldn't hold his breath. He cried and prayed to Lord Shiva. "Apuswamy this Ghorakali..." he prayed. Lord Shiva wanted to show Shivagochari the bhaktiprapatmas he had eaten. He appeared to the priest in a dream and ordered, "Hide behind the lingam. Come out and observe what is happening there."

On the sixth day he ate as usual and came to the temple. While coming, there were some bad things to eat. He thought that something had happened to Shiva. He forgot about himself whether any danger could befall Shiva. He ran to the temple. As soon as he leaves - money is coming out of Shiva's right eye. The things he had brought to worship God fell down. He cried out loud. It is not known who did this work. He did the herbal medicine he knew. But the blood did not stop. Soon he had a cradle. An eye for an eye emerged as the principle. He was happy. He danced. While dancing - he now noticed blood coming out of Shiva's left eye. No fear as the medicine is known, but a problem comes to mind. How to find the eye of Lord Shiva who took out his left eye? So he placed his foot on Lord Shiva's left eye to reveal it - he was going to tear out his left eye.

Lord Shiva immediately appeared and held the hand of the eater and stopped him. " Upright Kannappa! Kannappa! I appreciate your devotion. I have never seen such unwavering devotion before. Your will is the most sacred of the hearts of the five moons who stand and pray. You are the one who has brought complete joy to my heart, Kannappa!" He praised. Parameshwara called Kannappa thrice. It means that Kannappa got three times the grace of Lord Shiva.

Tinnadu became Kannappa because he kept his eye on God. He became Kannappanayanaru. Netresanayanaru is a Sanskrit name. Lord Shiva took Kannappa to him with both his hands and pulled him aside. Kannappa could see. Sakshatu lived like Shiva. Shivgochari's incredible devotion to Shiva was evident. The self-report of complete surrender shows that the great devotee eater opened his eyes and ate in offering to Lord Shiva. No other form of piety can be found. Immediately it realized God. Thus an ordinary person who did not know any Vedas, Naadams, Yogas, Shastras and Puranas pleased that great god with his devotion. This Bhaktisamrajyararaju..not only for Saivites.. He is a great memory for all Telugus.
